Tongue cancer

Hello  I have been referred to the ent by my doctor, my initial appointment  he took a look in my mouth as I said I had an ulcer that didn't look or feel right .The doctor prescribed lozenges, and something for my tongue for oral thrush, fast forward two weeks, back at docs no improvement ,affecting my eating swallowing , and my mouth and the side of my tongue it feels like it is on fire.I have finally been referred to ent as a 2 week urgent referral, that two week referral has now gone to four weeks I am going out of my mind it keeps bleeding , any advice

  • Sorry all I can offer is sympathy (I survived tongue cancer 7 years ago with simple laser excision) and that you must pressure the ENT for an appointment. If you can, offer to take an appointment slot at very short notice when cancellations. That's worked for me a couple of times.

    Good luck and wishes, dave.

  • Hello Shelby52 and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are concerning. It can be stressful and cause anxiety waiting for tests and test results.

As Dave has posted, if you can get to the hospital at short notice, do let the hospital know so that if there is a cancellation, you may be considered for an earlier appointment. You could contact your local PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) for advice. Some people may consider a private appointment, as this may be quicker.

I hope you can get an appointment soon. Please feel free to get back to us. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Jemma
