Worried my husband may have Myeloma

My husband’s kappa/lambda ratio has increased but his gp doesn’t have a clue why and has referred him to haematology at the local hospital. Having researched his results I can see that it could indicate myeloma though the only symptom he has is weight loss. Should I be as worried as I am?

  • Hi Tigs

No you should not be worried. If his GP with years of training and experience is not able to diagnose the problem then it is unlikely a Google search can. That is why he has been referred to specialists. Once you have a diagnosis you can either relax or plan your next steps. do not worry yourself needlessly or your health will suffer.

    wishing you both the best

  • Hello Tigs1957 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that your husband is being referred to haematology.

For myeloma to be diagnosed there are many different tests that your husband will have to have first. It is also best not to google as it is so general and without other tests it is impossible to be able to diagnose your husband.

Myeloma is quite complexed, with many different types. Once the tests have all been done the haematologists will all discuss your husband's case.

Try to take one step at a time and don't over think it for now.

If you or your husband would like to ring and talk through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
