Advanced lung cancer

Hi...I've just had results from CT scan and GP called me in to say I have advanced lung cancer probably from my breast cancer few years ago. How do they know this as I haven't seen oncologist yet or has biopsy or anything.

  • Hello Shells, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn of your situation. This must be a worrying and difficult time for you.

The scans do give the doctors a lot of information. It is the oncologist who will work out whether or not the scan gives them enough information and whether further tests, such as a biopsy, are needed.

A biopsy will confirm whether it is cancer and what type of cancer, for example, if it is secondary to the breast cancer you had before.

It might be worth speaking with the GP again, perhaps asking them to clarify why they think it is advanced lung cancer and why they think it is secondary to the breast cancer.

I hope you can get some answers soon. Please feel free to come back to us. If you would like to speak with one our nurses on the helpline, you would be welcome to give us a call. We are available Monday to Friday between 9 and 5 and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards

    Jemma
