Liver lumps

Hi

About my mum she has been in hospital with sepisfor over 2 and Dr did a CT scan of the abdominal area and they can see dark shadows around the liver and are staying could be cancer?

Mum can't have MRI due to her pacemaker and now the Dr are say to confirm its cancer they have to do a biopsy. Mum's blood AFP are high  in 600 bit this also isn't a clear conclusion for cancer this could also be high with liver cirrhosis and liver disease.

We want Dr to carry out a PET CT as this is a better view of what it is as she can't have MRI but the Dr are not listening to this ...

They can't confirm cancer but they also can't say it's liver cirrhosis or disease.

What can we do or say to Dr to stress we want a PET CT and surely they can repeat this in a few week bloods too and see if her marks have gone down or not?

Please can u advise

  • Hello Sika and thanks for your post, I am sorry to hear about your mum.

It is very difficult for us to advise you as we are not involved in your mum's care. If the doctors are able to perform a biopsy this is really the only way that they can really confirm whether a cancer is present. If they do a Pet CT they may still need to do a biopsy. We have some information on our website about having a biopsy.

Do talk your concerns through with your mum's doctors as they are the best people to advise you and your mum.

If you feel that you would like to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring. the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
