Triple negative breast cancer

Hi, I am 41 years old and diagnosed with stage 2A triple negative and grade 3 breast cancer, that is already 29 millimetres but located only at the breast. It will be a month from my biopsy until my first appointment with an oncologist. Is it possible the cancer to spread to my lymph nodes until I start chemotherapy? Is 30-45 days crucial for the expansion of a grade 3 triple negative cancer with this size? And how soon does someone start chemotherapy after seeing an oncologist in Bristol? Thank you.

  • Hello Billy-boy and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Waiting any length of time can be tough.

I can't say what effect waiting up to 45 days will have but hopefully if it is still contained in the breast this will remain the same.

I am not sure once you have seen the oncologist when you will start treatment as this will vary from hospital to hospital but your breast care nurse should be able to give you an idea as to when this is likely to be. Your breast care nurse is there to support you when you are first diagnosed and as you start treatment.

You could also speak to Pals. They are there to support patients and relatives and can look in to concerns including waits to start treatment.

We have some information on treating triple negative breast cancer which you might find helpful to read through before you see your oncologist.

Breast Cancer Now has a service called 'Someone Like Me' where the charity puts you in touch with someone else who is having a similar treatment. You may find it helpful to speak to someone going through a similar experience.

Give the nurses a ring on our helpline if you would like to talk things through.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9-5

    All the best,

    Catherine
