Diagnosed with breast cancer for third time!

Hi, just been diagnosed with locally advanced breast cancer recurrence in armpit lymph nodes. I’m 46 and have already had it twice before. The first time in 2016 aged 36 and then again in 2018 aged 39. I had wide local excision, some lymph nodes removed, radiotherapy and tamoxifen the first time then radical mastectomy with diep reconstruction, some more lymph nodes removed, chemotherapy (EC), other breast removed with implant, ovaries and tubes removed, anastrazole, Zometa bone infusions every 6 months for 3 years(6 in total). Now wondering what treatment I will need. Thank you

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your cancer returning for the 3rd time and appreciate what a difficult time this must be for you.

Unfortunately without being involved in your care we can't say what your treatment plan for now will look like. I hope you have an appointment with your breast care team to discuss what needs to happen next.

There is information about breast cancer recurrence you can look at and as you can see possible treatments for a local recurrence may consist of further surgery ( removal of lymph nodes), radiotherapy ( if you haven't had radiotherapy treatment previously), hormones, chemotherapy or a targeted treatment.

We wish you all the best going forward but do get back if you have more questions. You are also very welcome to call us if you prefer. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi
