Nervous - how can I stay calm before my breast appointment?

I felt a lump suddenly, went to doctors referred to consultant at hospital. My anxiety and nerves have shot through the roof and still a week before appointment. What do you suggest to calm myself.

I had a very small peice removed 18yrs ago and it was I felt barbaric. Being squashed and left for ages then a wire inserted as it was at the very back of breast. Removed and told benign. Im hoping things have moved on for the better if a biopsy is needed this time.

  • Hi there Netty88, and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the lump you recently found, and that you are now waiting to be checked out at the breast unit.

I appreciate that times like this can be worrying. If you have also had a previous traumatic experience, this understandably will make this anxiety worse.

People say that keeping themselves busy and their minds on other things can be helpful at times like this. Also, making sure you are looking after yourself by eating and sleeping well and carrying out some exercise can be useful for our mental health.

When you attend your appointment, do let the breast unit know about your experience and the pain and discomfort you experienced. Hopefully, they can allay your fears and put your mind at ease. If the situation arises where you do need a biopsy, I am sure they will do all they can to numb the area.

I hope you can put this aside for now and try and get on with the week as best you can.

    All the best.

    Take care of yourself

    Naomi
