Nerve pain in arm/ elbow after having a mastectomy and lymph node clearance 2 weeks ago

I had a mastectomy and lymph node clearance on the 10 th of  June. I have very little pain in the chest however on the inside of my an and elbow I have severe pain. Can’t even stand something brushing against it.

Has anyone else had this problem.

Thank you

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your recent surgery and the pain you are currently experiencing.

Whilst nerve pain, which can be very debilitating is a possible cause, if you haven't already I would suggest getting yourself checked out to make sure nothing else is going on.

There is information about ongoing pain after breast surgery on breast cancer now. Do take some pain relief and if this isn't helping ask for specific nerve pain relief to settle things for you.

I am sure others on here will get back to you and share their stories with you but as I say do mention this to your team as soon as you can, just to be on the safe side. If it gets worse or you notice anything else and you can't get through to anyone call NHS111 for advice.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hello thank you so much for the advice. I have called my team and they have said to continue with paracetamol. It is early days and not unusual for this type of pain. I have an appointment for Monday and they will check it out then.
    Again thank you so much.
