Referral confusion for mole. Photos emails to dermatology, appointment received for cosmetic surgery. Is this normal?

My hubby saw gp about a mole I am worried about, he emailed photos to dermatology but has received an appointment with cosmetic surgery. The appointment is less than 2 from the gp visit and Ona Sunday.  Is this normal? Should I be more or less worried?  We are in Scotland

  • I had my 1st had taken out by Mohs 3 weeks after diagnosis. As for being on a Sunday our hospitals also do oops then, good luck with it, hope all goes well Dave down south.

  • Hello there and thanks for the post

I appreciate this is an anxious time for you and your husband but try not to over think things for now.

In an ideal world people with suspicious symptoms are seen within a couple of weeks of going to see their GP. So the fact that your husband is being assessed quickly is good. At this point in time there is no way of knowing what this mole is but it sounds like they are wanting to remove it so it can be examined more closely.

It'll only be once it is removed and looked at under a microscope that will determine what it is and what does or doesn't need to happen next.

Sit tight as best you can for now until you have all the information. Waiting and not knowing is unsettling so do try and keep your mind occupied with other things to help pass the time.

    All the best

    Naomi
