Metastasis cancer of prostate

My husband 77, is T3 N1 metastases prostrate cancer. We are awaiting a bone scan result and biopsy result. I am beside myself with worry that all he will be offered is palliative care.

  • Hello Fay12 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your husband, this must be a worrying time for you both. I hope you also have the support of some friends and family at this time.

Try and take things one step at a time for now and don't let your thoughts run away with themselves, until you have all the facts.

At the moment it sounds like the doctors are running further tests to gather more information. Once they have all the information about the cancer and where it is they can then sit down to discuss the next steps forward in terms of treatment.

Treatment decisions are based on the type, stage ( size and extent) of the cancer as well as the patients general health and fitness levels.

It would be very unusual for there to be no treatment options available for your husband. Even when prostate cancer is diagnosed at a later stage with spread to other parts of the body there are usually treatments on offer.

There is information about prostate cancer on our website including commonly used treatments. Even when surgery or radiotherapy isn't possible there are other treatments such as hormone therapy, chemotherapy or other targeted drugs available.

Please do wait and see what the doctors have to say. I am sure they will be wanting to do all they can to give your husband the best overall outcome.

Do get back in touch if you so wish or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040. We're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes to you both

    Naomi
