Graft Versus Host Disease - is it likely?

Hello

I had a bone marrow transplant in 2011 which thankfully worked and saved my life. I am currently fine and having yearly checkups

This past month I have been suffering from really unusual symptoms I have tried to list them below

* bloated hands and feet (blood pressure under control)

* debilitating  back pain (was unable to walk for 3 days but since removed)

* severe bout of diarrhea and sickness feeling (initially put down to food poisoning but now not sure)

*majore shoulder pain (started as the sickness feeling reduced )

I did the mortal sin and googled it , should I be concerned about graft vs host at this stage or is it just coincidence? I'm now 35 if that helps

Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

In theory graft versus host disease can occur years later, but in reality this doesn't happen very often.

Be mindful of googling symptoms online that may well be not even related to each other, and due to different issues, some of these transient ones.

If you are worrying about your current health generally, then do seek advice from your GP who can assess you and advise further.

    Wishing you the best,

    Vanda
