TACE treatment

Hello,

I have been reading and researching a lot about TACE treatment, but it seems that in the UK it is only available for Primary Liver Cancer's, however, in other countries it is available for lots of other cancers that have spread to other areas of the body. Is this something that the oncologists in the UK will know about/ we could look at privately?

My dads cancer started in his bowel and has metastases in the liver and lungs. Has recently stopped all chemotherapy drugs.

Thank you

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to hear about your dad and his advanced bowel cancer.

TACE treatment is used in the NHS for primary and secondary liver cancer. But this would be very much dependent on the situation.

How well the patient is and where else the cancer is would help make this decision.

Do talk to your dad's doctor about his cancer so that you understand his situation.

We have information on a second opinion and accessing private healthcare if helpful.

Take care, and if you would like to speak to one of the nurses call freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
