Brain Cancer

My brother was diagnosed with brain cancer just over five years ago. Was told at the time, it was a slow growing tumour, in-operable but that he would undergo radiotherapy.

Fast forward to Covid when all treatment stopped. He then alleged his consultant lost his life. He refers to the consultant texting him all the time. We’ve never seen any correspondence from the NHS/. His treatment seems to flit between three local hospitals always inconsistent messages.

So at this point he still only has one tumour. He’s then diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of tumour which was growing rapidly. Admittedly at this point he starts loosing some weight. He is offered a further course of radio therapy. Which he takes.

At no point is he told he has to surrender his driving licence, despite having some odd muscle spams.
to date I’ve seen no medication other than muscle relaxers and pain killers prescribed.

So the radio therapy stops and he’s told good news it’s shrunk and now he will be seen in three months.
three months passes no scans.

five months later, he goes back to GP after describing more muscle spasms and a private scan is arranged and paid for by my elderly mother.

The second tumour is now growing again. But he’s now under a different consultant and referred to another hospital.

this time around he’s offered a medical trial which is a enzyme based treatment and has to stay overnight for at a research centre next to a large hospital in the east of England.

Following this treatment he’s then told the enzyme has worked and the Glioblastoma has shrunk again, but will be will more radio therapy. Which he does. Following the both the medical trial and the radio therapy he’s told there will be no more that can be done for him.

Again we have more inconstant information, and now very slurred speech. Fast forward to three weeks ago. He allegedly contacts one of the hospitals for a scan. He waits three weeks and attends a scan.
he’s told nothing is growing but as a fail safe he is to attend fortnightly blood tests.

hes been once in past eight weeks and even that was full of inconsistencies.

So as of today, he’s been to another local hospital this week. Told he’s lost a stone in weight, his weight blood cells are higher and another apology for the face the major cancer hospital in the area is not providing him the care he needs. (5th time the have offered that apology)

He managed to remember very intricate details and information this week. He poets very agressive and annoyed when I or my mother ask information when he sees any medics. Yet the details he came up with this week were exceptional.

this has been going on now for nearly six years. The stress my mum is under with this is unbelievable and I am loosing patience.

Does anyone have any advice. Does this all sound madness to anyone else. I’ve spoken with friends and thy have had family members who have undergone cancer treatment in the past five years or so and they all think it’s odd.

Given he’s had a seizure this week and was seen at the local cancer centre the following day after his seizure. Was given stronger muscle relaxers and allegedly told he didn’t have to contact the DVLA to surrender his license.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

It is difficult for us to comment in depth about others case histories that they report.

On reading this, what I would comment on is that anyone who has had a seizure and reported it to heir medical team would be told not to drive. The consultant would probably inform the DVLA. Also, there is specific medicine called anti epileptic medicine that would be prescribed to someone who has had a fit. It is also likely that the person would have a brain scan done as well.

I can't comment any further, but hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
