Hi. I'm not a nurse but had radioactive iodine treatment five years ago and the only effect it had was a nosebleed about 10 or 12 days after the treatment. I don't think side effects are common. I have heard of some people experiencing nausea.

I felt no different after taking the capsule.

I am sorry to learn that your son needs to have radioactive treatment. I think you are referring to radioactive iodine, I apologise if I have got this wrong and please get back to us.

Generally, the side effects tend to be things like dry mouth and taste changes possibly nausea. You can read more at the link above.

It is difficult to know what exact side effects if any your son will have because everyone is different. It is worth asking the hospital if there is a number you can call so you can speak with someone about any side effects that are concerning you.
