Always starving since being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer

Not sure if I am over thinking this ….

since my stage 4 diagnosis I am constantly starving

is this possible ?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation. This must be a difficult time for you.

It is possible to constantly feel hungry after a stage 4 diagnosis. Some medications like steroids can increase the appetite. Also, if your cancer is active, your body might be burning more energy trying to fight it, which can increase hunger. Advanced cancer can sometimes change the way your metabolism works causing changes to your appetite. Stress and anxiety can also affect appetite. Some people lose theirs but others find their appetite increases.

If this is worrying you, you may find it's worth talking to your specialist or palliative care nurse. They will have come across this before and can advise you further. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this has been of some use. Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards,
