Colon cancer diagnosis

My mum was diagnosed with colon cancer two weeks ago, due to a blockage she had emergency surgery to remove the tumor, and is now at home recovering, in her discharge notes in mentions that nodules have been found in the lungs, but no one has mentioned what further treatment is needed. They told me that they had sent biopsies from the tumour of, but how long does it normally. Thank you

    Hi Claire,

    I am also waiting for biopsy results, and have been told that they typically take 10-15 days. Try not to worry, and just be there for your Mum. It helps so much to have a quiet, calm and loving presence while recovering from surgery. Remember that she is likely scared, and needs you to remain positive.

    It can take several weeks for the results of any biopsies to be sent back to the original referring consultant. They may have a hospital MDT (multi disciplinary team) meeting, where the hospital surgical team discuss new patients with other specialists, such as cancer specialists. Once follow up care has been discussed, and they have a plan, then they will make contact with the patient to discuss this further. This can be an outpatient clinic appointment, or a telephone call. Any documentation is also usually sent to the patient's GP as well.
