Prep & post facial BCC removal

Hello,

A very minor question. I am having a facial BCC removal under local anaesthetic soon & am wondering if in addition to the advice already rec'd (e.g. vaseline post removal) there is any further useful actions I can take either to prepare or afterwards to aid healing.

Thank you.

  • Hi Samphire

Avoid drinking alcohol for a few days before and after your procedutre as it can cause you to bleed more. If you smoke give it up for a few weeks as it can seriously slow wound healing and therefore prolong the period you are at risk of infection. Keep the dressing dry. Eat a balanced diet get some excercise.

From now on avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm wear a hat,  long clothing, use suncream 365days. Protect your skin or you are likely to get further BCC or worse.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your upcoming bcc surgery on your face and hope this goes well.

It seems Ed on CC has already given you some good suggestions in the days before and after your surgery that are worth taking note of.

Skin care and protection in the sun is important as well as the use of vaseline to ensure the skin is in the best condition. Eating a balanced, healthy diet rich in fruit and vegetables and protein can all help with wound healing as well. Not smoking and minimising alcohol, also helpful.

    Best wishes
