Fluid build up

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2023 I had a hysterectomy and lymph node dissection iv since been for a mri and ct scan and it’s come back that I have fluid in my abdomen and i did the worse thing and googled it I’m scheduled for an operation on the 18th of this month and I am so scared that it might be cancer as anyone else been through the same or similar

  • Hi Thelma,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am not a doctor, but I believe that there are less drastic reasons for fluid build up than cancer. We usually advise people not to Google, whilst waiting for results. Much of the information is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This doesn't give us any answers and, even if you weren't scared before, you are likely to be after you've done this. I am glad to see that this will be investigated further on 18th June and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward will be found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn that you needed to have surgery for cervical cancer a couple of years ago, this must have been a difficult time for you.

Waiting for surgery and the results can be stressful and cause a lot of anxiety. Unfortunately, until you undergo surgery, no one can determine the cause of the fluid build-up. This uncertainty can be hard to live with.

I hope you have family and friends that you can lean on during this time. If you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline you would be welcome to give us a call. We are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040,

    Take care,

    Jemma
