Prostate cancer treatment option concern

Hi.I am 70 yrs old and I have had prostate cancer for 5 yrs. I am on a 'watch and wait' treatment option but I am getting concerned that if I leave it too long' to have a more radical treatment, ie prostate removal I am taking an unnecessary risk?

Can someone advise me please.

Many thanks.

  • Hi Will51, and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn about your situation and can appreciate your concerns over your possible treatment options. It must seem overwhelming at times.

As a team of information nurses, we do not recommend treatments or advise on the duration for which a chosen treatment should continue, as we are not involved in your clinical care and do not have all your medical details. We are a research organisation, not a hospital, so we don’t have doctors working here.

I would suggest that you voice your concerns to your hospital specialist, who has access to your complete medical information.

Many individuals choose to seek a second opinion from another oncology team to ensure they have explored all possible options. You can ask your general practitioner or current specialist to refer you.

I hope you can get this sorted out soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

     Kind regards

    Tina
