Bladder Cancer

My husband has completed radio therapy treatment for the removal of a bladder tumour.   He has an appointment in July to see Oncologist Specialist but he has heard nothing from the Urology Department regarding the temporary nephrostomy tube he has had for three months.  Please can you let me know what happens next, especially as he find the nephrostomy tube very uncomfortable and depending on how the dressing is changed very sore.  He has had two infections in it already.

Many thanks

  • Hi Flowglow and thank you for your post.

I am very sorry to hear about your husband’s situation, and I can appreciate you want to do all you can to help him.

I’m afraid as a team of information nurses, we do not recommend treatment or advise how long the treatment should continue for as we are not involved in your husband’s clinical care and do not know all his medical details.

His hospital specialist are better placed to advise you on when his nephrostomy tube can be removed this is because  they are familiar with all your husband’s medical details.

The urologist may be waiting for the oncologist to inform them as to when the tube can be removed.

You may find it helpful to speak to your husband’s specialist team and hopefully they will be able to provide some clarity on his current situation

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
