Cervical Cancer

Can touching or putting things on your cervix affect a smear?

  • Hi Dianewithmetcalfe and thank you for your post.

Several factors can affect the accuracy and outcome of a smear test. These include the timing of the test in relation to menstruation, the use of vaginal products, and the presence of infections.

It is recommended that you should avoid sexual intercourse  for up to 24hrs before  your smear test, and to avoid using  lubricants, and creams,  for at least two days prior to the test.
