Prostate cancer

Hi

Are you able to advise what tests etc a doctor would carry out for suspected prostate cancer.

Psa test result slightly higher than should be...  internal examination and urine test which showed higher than normal protein...  had to do another urine test and more bloods due next week...

Is this normal ?

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

A psa and digital rectal examination of the prostate are 2 of the first things to be done when querying the possibility of a prostate issue or cancer. From there if the psa is elevated they may wish to repeat the blood test alongside other blood or urine tests to rule out other causes, such as infection.

If there remains a concern then your partner will be referred to the hospital to see a urologist and have a possible MRI and biopsy of the prostate dependent on what the images of the prostate show. There is information on the tests for prostate cancer on the website.

I hope this helps and you and your partner know more about their situation soon.

Do get back in touch if you have further questions or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
