Mounjaro no longer a contraindication in thyroid cancer?

I recently queried with my consultant regarding the possibility of me undergoing course of Mounjaro treatment to help with weight control. I had a partial thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer (follicular variant papillary carcinoma of the thyroid) in 2019. My consultant has reassured me that I am almost certainly cured of the thyroid cancer & the risks of the Mounjaro related to thyroid cancer seems to have been discounted on further recent research, and is no longer a contraindication. My Consultant doesn’t see there will be any problems going ahead with treatment.
That said I am still in two minds whether to proceed with treatment or not. There is very little online to suggest that other people, with a similar history to me are undergoing a course of Mounjaro treatment.  Would to hear from people in a similar boat to me or any cancer nurse specialists that might be able to offer some advice.  I suppose I should just accept my consultants correspondence but I’m scared! Thank you

    I am sorry to hear about your past cancer and appreciate your concerns about having weight loss jabs.

    Unfortunately no one here can advise you on your decision whether to go ahead with the mounjaro or not and we usually advise people to check with their own doctor. You have done this and they seem to be okay about this for you in your case.

    We are not experts in weight loss jabs here but from what I can see having had a little look at some studies that anyone who has had cancer in the past 5 years or currently receiving treatment for cancer aren't usually prescribed weight loss injections. There also seems to be some concerns for people in particular who have had or who have had a close family member with medullary thyroid cancer.

    I hope this helps. If you are still unsure about what to do I would suggest speaking with your GP or the medical provider who you were considering accessing the weight loss injection through.
