Side effects of BCG treatment

I would like some advice I completed my last BCG treatment for this cycle and have had problems ever since. I have painful groin pain radiating to my hips and down my thighs. This pain is constant. I feel like you do when you have a catheter put in and the ache untill the meds kick in except my pain killers aren't touching it.

I was given antibiotics on Tuesday it is now Saturday and pain still the same. I now have red bloodshot eyes not painful just uncomfortable. I did get drops Friday after advised by my McMillan nurse. The drops haven't really helped.

I just wondered if I could get any advice on how to deal with this as I am getting really down because of it.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I hope by now you have spoken with your doctor so they can advise you on things to help with your symptoms and get this pain under control.

It sounds like if this is ongoing a doctor needs to assess you, just to make sure sure nothing else is going on.

Treatment can affect people in different ways but often there are things that can be done to try and manage these but if severe or worsening your team do need to be made aware. In an emergency NHS 111 can be called for advice.

There is information about BCG on our website.

I hope things start improving for you soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
