Bowel cancer

Hi this might sound minor but I’ve lost family members to cancer including my sister to breast cancer.my daughter started loosing blood from her back passage about 2 years ago and was prescribed  bisodol from the Gp and it stopped how ever it started again 2 weeks ago this time worse she’s been passing dark looks like dark blood clots mucus and bright red blood when she wipes. She’s been to her GP who took bloods and a stool sample Wednesday her GP called today and said that her bloods have come back fine but he has referred her to urgent suspected cancer clinic for further tests she has no other symptoms and when she does have a bowel movement it’s normal she’s only just turned 30  never smoked eats a healthy diet and is a ODP.

I’m going out of my mind with worry she doesn’t want me to tell anyone until we find out what it is but I just don’t know what to think what to do or what to say does this mean that there is a high possibility that she has colon cancer ?

sorry for such a long message I just need to get it out of my head

thank you

  • Hello, and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about how cancer has affected your family, and now the worry you have about your daughter's symptoms and her urgent referral.

It is reassuring that your daughter's doctor has referred her, but please remember that this still does not mean she necessarily has cancer. However, she may need to have a colonoscopy to see what the matter is.

I hope your daughter knows what will happen soon.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
