Urgent referral - suspect breast cancer

Absolutely out of my mind.

Had an odd feeling in right boob for couple of months.  Not painful just odd/hard like.  Felt awkward laying in bed.

Just been to GP he has found lumpy nodules in inferior outer quadrant.  on urgent referral to rule out BC.  Mum has had BC.  Cant help worrying. ive had tingling and numbness in right arm and fingers too and pain in chest but he says not connected.  Just read my referral letter and he has put suspects cancer.

Absolutely at my wits end.

Anyone else had the same?

  • Hello Carol.b and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling anxious about your right boob. I can understand how unsettling this can be. No one can really tell you any more until you have been to the breast clinic and perhaps had a biopsy. Try if you can not to let your mind run away with you.

You have a suspected breast cancer lump but the majority of women referred don't end up with a cancer diagnosis but it is important to rule it out.

The charity Breast Cancer Now have some information about what to expect at a breast clinic appointment

If you feel that it would be helpful to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • By writing cancer it will get you seen quicker on the two week pathway. I wouldn't take cancer as a given.  Being extremely worried can give you all sorts of weird symptoms, the mind loves playing tricks to worry us more. Even if it is, the treatment is so much better now. Been there, done that and now out the other side. Once you know where you stand you will handle it better. The wait is the most terrible thing. Good luck !
