Worried about husband

My husband has had pv for about 10 years. Now also diagnosed with myelofibrosis. He’s still under investigation, following a bone marrow biopsy, so we don’t yet know exactly how bad it is. I feel very upset and concerned about it, but he’s taking it really calmly. I want to discuss it, but I feel as though I’m overreacting.

  • Hello Figgypop and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It can be very difficult for the carer and the patient waiting for results and not knowing what to expect. Everyone deals with information in different ways and this is probably how your husband is helping to process his new diagnosis.

Depending on the bone marrow biopsy and any further investigations will depend on the type of treatment the doctors may decide to give him. You may find it helpful to look at the information on our website about myelofibrosis.

We also have some information about tests and treatment for this condition.

If you have a read through the information you may have more of an understanding about what is involved and how you can help support your husband. We have a page on coping with this condition. There is a support group called MPN Voice and you may find it helpful to talk to others caring for patients with this condition.

You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but if you post on another thread or start your own in another category you may find others in a similar situation to yourself.

Do give the nurses a ring on the helpline if you would like to talk any of this through. The lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and the number to call is freephone 0808 800 4040

    All the best,

    Catherine
