Fertility

I had cancer treatment 4 years ago and I was told before I started treatment that it could make me infertile but they told me also that I can have a test or something done to see if I'm infertile or not as me and my husband would love to go back having sex normal without the risk of getting pregnant.

Could you please advise me on how to find out

  • Hi there and thank for the post

I am sorry to hear about your previous treatment for cancer.

Whilst some cancer treatments can affect a persons fertility, this may only be short term after treatment has finished.

You haven't said your age but some women may go into an early menopause after cancer treatment. When this happens women often will often start to notice some menopausal symptoms and their periods may be erratic or never come back after treatment. At this point it may be possible to get a blood test to check hormone levels from your GP but it will only be if you are classed as officially post menopausal that it will be safe to have unprotected sex.

Other testing to check fertility in the NHS is usually for those women or men who have tried to become pregnant after cancer treatment and failed.

I am sorry we can't be of more help.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
