Seroma

Hi I’m new to this.

I has a Lumpectomy yesterday for ER Positive Breast Cancer

I would just like to know if the Sentinel Node is taken from the breast can you get Seroma? And where?
I have tried to find the answer in all the material I received but it’s not very clear.

Thank you for your help

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you needed to have a lumpectomy yesterday and I hope you are starting to recover well.

In some people, it is possible to have a seroma following breast surgery and a sentinel lymph node biopsy, this normally occurs under the arm or in the breast or chest wall. The fluid will normally go away on its own within a few weeks, or in some situations, the fluid can be taken off by a doctor or nurse using a syringe and needle.

We have some information about possible problems that can occur after breast surgery, which I hope will be useful.

If you are concerned at all do speak with your breast care nurse (CNS) who knows your situation.

Do come back to us if you have any further questions. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses directly we are available Monday to Friday between 9and 5pm and the freephone number is 0808 800 4040,

I hope your recovery goes well,

    Jemma
