Stem cell therapy

Can stem cell therapy be used to treat stage iv melanoma which has metastasized to lungs, bones and liver? Currently is undergoing IV immunotherapy. Thanks.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about this situation.

Stem cell treatments tend to be used as treatments for patients with blood type cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma rather than solid tumours, such as a melanoma.

Immunotherapy treatment can often be an effective treatment for patients with melanoma and I hope this is the case in this persons situation.

We have some general information about melanoma, commonly used treatments and the research going on in this area on the about cancer pages of the CRUK website.

Do get back if you have more questions or you are welcome to call us on 0808 800 4040. We're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes
