some background - I had my first daughter in summer 2019 and second in autumn 2022.

In January 2020 I received a positive HPV result as part of my routine smear test. After a year I went back and in January 2021 I had LLETZ for cin1 & 2.  They took a lot away during the lletz (1.7cm depth) but it did the job and got rid of the CIN and HPV.

When I was trying for my second daughter after a clear test of cure in August 2021 onwards I did notice from time to time I had some pink cervical mucous after sex but out it down to irritation.  I fell pregnant in February 2022 and had spotting in the first couple of months.

In May 2022 I had a cervical cerclage as my cervix was shortening whilst pregnant. This was removed in September 2022 and thankfully I had a normal vaginal delivery the following month. 

In December 2023 I had a private smear at the hospital and this came back clear.

So all seemed ok and I was putting all the cervical issues behind me. I was returning to my sex life with my husband, however, in April 2024 I noticed again pink or brown cervical mucus directly after sex and the next day (it would stop after that) every time we had sex.

This put me into a panic thinking I had cervical cancer / CIN and I was examined by the doctor who referred me to gynaecology at the hospital. She said she thought she could see an ectropion the size of her small fingernail. 

I had my 3 year smear in August 2024 and this was clear and I had my gynaecology appointment in October 2024 after a long wait.

During the appt I told the consultant I was concerned about cervical cancer etc given the past experiences and he said I wasn’t to worry about that and applied a few vials of silver nitrate to my cervix.  He also checked the rest of my vagina etc and said all looked ok and I shouldn’t worry and diagnosed ‘post LLETZ ectopy’.

After a good 6 weeks of healing time I decided to have sex with my husband and see if the nitrate had worked - it had not and the spotting was the exact same as it has been beforehand. 

I went back to my GP and got referred again whereby ball cautery was carried out in the colposcopy clinic at the end of January 2025.   Again the consultant reassured me that everything is ok down there and he cauterised what he described as a lesion with no further actions needed he couldn’t see any ectropian.

Ive only just this month plucked up the courage to try again having sex and it’s happening again with the pink mucous followed by brown discharge the next day. I just guess I’m at my wits end, where do I go from here? Is this normal? Is this what it’s like forever? I can’t for the life of me find any research on women experiencing bleeding due to scarring / friable areas of the cervix years after LLETZ especially invasive ones like I’ve had. 

I don’t have any other unusual symptoms and my usual discharge is ‘normal’.

any advice / ideas - I will be truly grateful.
