Incontinence

Hi I have had my prostate removed I was wondering how long does it take to regain bladder control thanks

  • Hi Robertw9496 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms that you have been experiencing since your prostate surgery. Each person's recovery from surgery is a unique process and individual to them, but most people recover within 3 to 6 months after their operation. However, for some individuals, it can take between 1 and 2 years.

Cancer Research UK and Prostate Cancer UK have useful tips and advice on how to cope with urinary symptoms following prostate surgery.

You may be interested in joining a support group called tackle. It is a patient led charity for men with prostate cancer. There are groups up and down the country or you can start your own. It can help to talk to other men who have gone through similar treatments. You may find that they have tips on how they cope with similar side effects.

I do hope that as time goes on your symptoms will settle down. Do also discuss this with your GP or hospital specialist to see whether they have any suggestions.

I hope this reply helps in some way.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards
