  • Hello Tuckertom and thanks for your post,

Tamoxifen may be the drug of choice or your oncologist may decide on a different hormone drug depending on your age and whether you have been through the menopause.

You can read about the different hormone therapies here.

Each case is treated very individually. If you have a breast care nurse (BCN) you could ask them what hormone you are likely to be offered.

As the BCN has all your medical records they may be in a position to tell you more. They will however probably be waiting for the results of the surgery as all the breast tissue that has been removed will be examined by the pathologist and it maybe that the surgeon will not make the decision on your hormones until your surgery is complete and the pathologist has had a chance to look at the breast tissue.

Any decision will be talked through with you so if you do have any questions then I am sure that you will have a chance to have them answered.

If you would like to talk through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
