Advice BCC

  1. I have just been dianosed with BCC which i thought was a sore at the side of my nose but sort of under my eye. The strange thing was that 18 months ago a piece of sharded glass hit this area and i went to hosp to check nothing was under the skin as it felt prickly when i touched it, they ultrasounded it and assured me no foreign object there. However the sore i thought was from that tiny shard of glass looked like a little scar healing. Its all very strange.Ive seen a  dr from maxillofacial who said he will remove the BCC and move skin around to cover the bit where its removed.. Ive ended up seeing him privately as nhs dont see it as urgent.
  2. Im so worried and scared of the surgery and how bad it will leave  a scar, has anyone had similar and can advise me please.
  3. Thank you
  • Hi cockerpoo

Do not worry about your upcoming op. It will be painless and all done in under one hour. Yes it will leave a little scar which will fade gradually over time you can reduce the appearance if you keep the area moisturised once wound has healed. I had a skin graft on the side of my nose where I had a bcc removed it is hardly noticable now. Be sure to use suncream every day wear a hat avoid midday sun.

  • Hi Farmer Ed. Thank you for your reply..Did your surgety involve moving skin around. Did the use dissolvable stitches, do you mind me askung how long it took for your scar to fade.

I sure will. I am terrified of thecsun now. Having to go private as i cannot wait months on nhs.

    Thanks

  • They took full depth piece of skin from my face just in front of my ear to repaiir the area on the side of my nose. Although it healed very quickly it took about 2 years to become nearly invisible. Massage the scar daily with a little oil to keep skin supple and prevent it drying out. Probably a good call to seek private healthcare as dermatology waiting lists can be 9 months.

Wishing you the best for a successful op.

  • Thamk you, that is reassuring to hear  Can i just finally ask you did they have to cut quite a biiggish area out of your skin where the BCC was.?

    Thanks

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate how the thought of any surgery can be a worry.

I'm glad others on here have posted their experiences with you and hope this can put your mind a little at ease.

I hope it all goes well but do ask the specialist doctor treating you any further questions you still may have about the op, just so you go in for the procedure fully aware of what is going to take place.

Do get back if you have further questions or if you would like to talk with one of the nurses. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Thank youfor your reply.

Dr did explain its just mev worrying the length of time the bcc has been there not knowing..

  • Hi, I had what looked like a tiny spot on the side of my nose that seemed to keep coming back. Was  diagnosed as a BCC. Had a biopsy which confirmed the diagnosis. Had it removed under local anaesthetic three weeks ago. The surgery was fine apart from the first two injections to numb it, OUCH but that only lasted a couple of minutes.  Before the op they talked me through the stitching procedures - pulling the skin together and stitching, creating a flap ( not sure how that was going to happen!) or a skin graft.  Fortunately the surgeon said there was plenty of skin to pull it together. Had six stitches and did look like I'd been in a fight but the stitches are now dissolving and there will be a scar but I'm confident that once I can start putting something on it apart from Vaseline it shouldn't be too noticeable. Hope it all goes OK for you. Ooh, just remembered buy a hat to keep it out of the sun until it heals when you can put sunscreen on again!
