Resistant to Tamoxifen and Aromatase inhibitors . What now ?

I just wonder if there's anyone out there with reoccuring regional HR+ HER2 - Breast Cancer that has grown resistant to Tamoxifen and Aromatase Inhibitors?

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about this situation, this must be a difficult time for you.

Unfortunately it is possible for cancers to become resistant to treatment. When this happens whilst on hormone treatments the cancer cells have found a different way to grow other than through the hormones themselves.

It is the specialist doctor to decide what the best treatment is moving forward. Sometimes a switch to a different hormone therapy may be possible but there are instances where a different type of treatment such as chemotherapy maybe necessary.

Unfortunately no one here can say what this may be in this situation without knowing where the cancer is, if there is further cancer spread or what other treatments have been given already.

The best thing to do is to speak with the specialist doctor or nurse who can talk this through with you in greater detail about the next steps.

Wishing you all the best but do get back if you have further questions. If you would prefer to speak over the phone then give us a call on 0808 800 4040. We're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
