Results Time

Hi just had a Exision biopsy on arm with suspected Squamous cell skin lesion. i totally forgot to ask how long it takes for results to come back ? Could you please let me know how long it usually takes. Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Waiting for biopsy results can be a worrying time and a lot of people contact us to ask how long should they have to wait for them to come through.

But waiting times in the NHS can vary depending on the workload and staffing in local laboratories. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly how long you will have to wait as there will be some regional variations in different NHS Trusts.

But, if you don't hear anything after two weeks, then do ask your GP to enquire, or ring the specialist/consultant secretary. If you have access to a specialist nurse you could discuss this further with them.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • I had a wide excision biopsy on a possible soft tissue sarcoma on my upper arm on 4 April... it'll be 6 weeks tomorrow and i have still not had my results... and I'm private through BUPA.  The wait is agonising although i do think for me its because soft tissue sarcoma is so rare and a specialist pathologist has to review it... no news is good news as they say but that feeling in the pit of your stomach is unbearable sometimes!  I think on the NHS site it says usually 2-3 weeks but obviously that's very general.  I have been keeping in touch with my consultants secretary who bless him is also at his witts end chasing.  I think what made it worse for me is they told me the results were back then rang me and said the pathologist wanted to do more tests... so that has gotten me a nervous wreck and that was almost 4 weeks ago.  Good luck.. hope everything is benign xx
