Skin Cancer

I had been referred by my GP for an urgent 2WW dermatology appointment for a mole on my cheek. I had a Teledermatology appointment and I’ve now received a letter from a Consultant to say they want to see me face to face and I should receive an appointment in next 2-3 months.

is this a normal timeframe for a face to face consultant meeting? Also does this mean I may have skin cancer?

would appreciate any feedback

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

Not being involved in your care, we cannot say what this means for you, whether or not this means you have skin cancer.

There are different types of skin cancer, and some are treated more urgently than others. For example, if melanoma is diagnosed you would expect to have a diagnosis within 28 days. However, if a type of skin cancer known as basal cell carcinoma is found, this is often not treated urgently because it tends to be slow-growing.

I appreciate the waiting is difficult. Unfortunately, until you have your appointment with the specialist who knows your situation no one can say what your situation is.

If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline, we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Jemma
