Struggling with not knowing

Hi I've got 3 hard lumps in my neck. All at least 1cm. I've had them for around 6/8 weeks. They're not sore. I've had an odd rash that I thought was an infection or fungal. No treatment seemed to resolve it. And it keeps going and then coming back

I've had itching and night sweats. I thought this could be menopause related but my hormones show it's not.

I've got an appointment with a private consultant tomorrow and I am not sure what they will do or test but I am struggling with the not knowing. I expect this is normal and I need to just get on with it.

If they do a biopsy will that generally be the  definitive test? thanks and sorry to trouble

  • I didn’t know any to read and run, but you are right the waiting is the worst. I’ve had some great advice these last few weeks and that’s to take each appointment as it comes. Tomorrow isn’t that long away but can imagine the lead up to it has taken its toll a little.

im unsure what the doctor will do in regards to tomorrow, but just know they will do what is best. I find writing down bullet points helps me to reel off symptoms or tests I’ve had that rule things out. Sometimes it’s quite the blur when sat in front on the spot x

  • I didn’t want to read an run* that first line should say ️

  • Thank you,  appreciate you replying

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are worried about some neck lumps and can appreciate that unexplained symptoms can prey on your mind.

The majority of neck lumps are harmless but they need to be checked out to be on the safe side. I 'm not sure if you've had an ultrasound scan of the lumps. If not, the consultant tomorrow may order one and will let you know what needs to happen next ( if anything).

Easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy.

I hope you know more soon.. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
