Letrozole and diabetes

I have been taking Letrozole for over 13 years now and despite a good diet with exercise have been diagnosed with early Type 2 Diabetes.

I see my surgeon annually to monitor the Letrozole. If I stopped taking Letrozole, how long would the protective effect last? I am 73.

  • Hello IAR and thanks for your post,

The protective effect of letrozole in most women after they stop taking it can last for many years but this does vary from woman to woman. A lot will depend on the age of the women when they were diagnosed, the type and grade of breast cancer. The fact that you have been on letrozole for 13 years will probably be beneficial but you are probably better asking your oncologist for their opinion.

Breast Cancer Now have the following information about letrozole.

I am sorry I can't be more specific. Do give the nurses a ring on the helpline if you would like to talk things through.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
