Lung cancer ?

Just been told today, they are giving me a Pet scan as they think it might be lung cancer. Nodules picked up on a x ray then went on to have ct scan.. I don't know how I feel really,  I don't want to talk to my husband.  Just want to sleep but finding it hard to switch off.

  • Hello Hollywell5 and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation. Waiting for tests and test results can be stressful and anxious.

It can be a time when people feel they have no control over what is happening to them, and there is a lot of uncertainty. There is no right or wrong way to deal with these feelings. Some people find it helpful to carry on with their daily lives, such as working for others it doesn't help just as some people find it helpful to lean on friends and family for others it can be too difficult.

I hope you do not have to wait too long for your scan and scan results. Please feel free to come back to us, if you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040,

    Take care

    Jemma

  • Thank you for reply,  I now have the results and I have to have a Lung  biopsy.  I thought from a ct scan they would know if it was cancer. or have a good idea ?. I will be having my biopsy  when I come back from my holidays which is in 4 weeks  time. So the end of June time. 15mm nodule in the left lung and few very small ones.  Kind regards Judith.

  • I know how you feel. I just been through this. The biopsy isn't as bad as you think. I am waiting for surgery now. The waiting is the worst part. I felt everything was out of control. You will feel better when you know the facts. I'm wishing you all these and positive thoughts. Try and enjoy your holiday.  You are not alone on this journey.

  • Ah thank you. Consultant rang me the other day on holiday trying to put me at ease as I am having a robotic lung biopsy when I return off my holiday. He was very  informative.

  • Hello Holly,

I am waiting on a lung biopsy (did not know that they can do it with a robotic arm, that's amazing). Did you have a PET scan? I had two CT scans, and it was only on the second one that alarm bells started ringing.

I'm glad you get to go on holiday. Try to rest and build up your strength for whatever comes next. I was due to go away but have been told to stay put, which is frustrating in itself, as the good weather is here now.

Have they discussed eventual treatment options with you yet? They are already talking about lung surgery for mine, but I still want to explore alternatives if they are feasible.

Take good care. All the best ...

  • Yes Robotic, watched it on YouTube  and it's amazing what it can do. I actually  went to the Dr's complaining  about the bottom of my stomach.  Went for ct scan and it picked it up about my lungs. Nothing wrong with my stomach.  From there a xray and while I was there they decided  to do another ct scan. Within a week had pet scan.  Within  another  week saw  Dr  at the hospital.  He was referring me to a hospital in the East Midlands.  Got a call from them saying the plan is to see what this nodule  is. If it is cancer I will go back and have this removed.  I live  1hr away from the hospital so I will go first thing in the morning  for pre op and  then op in the afternoon.    He mentioned  27th June, I will be back from holiday 3/4 days before.  So far I am impressed  with the NHS.  You take care also,   xx

  • Can I ask you what your PET scan showed? Mine picked up moderate hyper-metabolic activity at 3.7 SUVmax. I don’t know whether that points to malignancy or not (the consultant didn’t explain the scan results to me).

Now go pack your suitcase with some pretty things and plan to enjoy your vacay! Don’t forget sunscreen …

  • All I know one of the nodules  is half a inch circle  and the outside seems smooth. Left lung half way up plus few tiny ones. I have been on holiday  for 2 week's already down in Cornwall.  Just trying to chill, Thinking positive.  I always say what will be will be.....let me know how you get on please xxx
