Waiting lists

I have been told I have lesion on my kidney. Its an incidental find following an appendicectomy which was done in the first week of December. Before I left the hospital following the appendicectomy the ward rounds doctor said that they suspected cancer and that the urologist would be in touch. My appointment came through first wee of Jan. He again said it could be cancer but would need to run more tests and then call me in for another chat. I had the second ct scan in Jan and I went back to see consultant in Feb where the plan to move forward discussed. I said I would prefer to have the lesion removed than abalated. Consultant said OK I had a pre op assessment on 31st March but still not had a date for op. When I ring the booking team they say consultant provides a date. When I speak to consultants medical secretary I'm told booking team make appointment.

I've been left sweating about a cancer diagnosis since first week on December and we are now in may. Surely this is not right?

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn of your situation. Waiting for tests, and for treatment can be stressful and can cause anxiety.

I was unsure what the result of the second scan was, whether it confirmed it was a cancer.

If you still have not heard anything and are not getting answers from the booking clerks or the secretary, it might be worth contacting your local PALS (patient advice and liaison service). They provide a confidential service for patients concerned about any aspects of their care. You can search for your nearest PALS by putting in your postcode in the link.

I hope you get your appointment soon. Please feel free to get back to us, if you would like to speak with one of our nurses we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Jemma
