Womb biopsy - what happens next if my results show pre-cancerous cells?

Hi

After a bleed from 4 years no periods I had a womb biopsy last Thursday.

can anyone advise what the procedure is if my results show pre cancerous cells

thanks dibs x

  • Hi Dibstar and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you are currently undergoing tests and awaiting biopsy results.

This is understandably an unsettling time and I hope you know more soon.

Unfortunately as every patients situation is different, the management and treatment for atypical hyperplasia ( abnormal cells) in the womb lining can vary between individuals. So i'm afraid no one here can say what treatment you will definitely need if the results come back abnormal ( or pre cancerous).

This is a question only your doctor can answer for you dependent on what the biopsy results show.

You can however read about the management of endometrial hyperplasia on the patient website. This explains about how an IUD, a type of hormonal coil is often used to manage a thickened lining, whereas when the cells are atypical a hysterectomy may be recommended.

I hope this is helpful and that you know more soon.

    All the best

    Naomi
