Breast clinic

Hello

Firstly I have severe health anxiety

I have an appointment at breast clinic on Wednesday 7th

I went to doctors last week as I felt bumps side of breast. The doctor felt breast and said she felt bilateral generalised lump

I have spent the last week in a bubble and I'm just stressing out. She said she didn't think it was cancer but my health anxiety mind tells me it is

Has anyone had anything like this? The bilateral generalised lumps x

  • Bilateral generalised lumps it should say

  • Hi Donna,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your health anxiety and the fact that you are waiting to be seen at the breast clinic on Wednesday. This is an anxious stage for all of us. Our overactive imaginations tend to take us to all sorts of dark places. I have had lumps in both breasts and have had 2 bouts of breast cancer, within a year of each other, Both cancers were in the same breast, but the lump in the other breast was pre-cancerous. I had a lumpectomy the first time and a double mastectomy for the second bout. That was all 15 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Not all lumps are cancerous. Many people have benign cysts, fibroadenoma, etc. Only 20% of those who attend the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, so let's hope that you'll be one of the lucky ones!

I shall be thinking of you on Wednesday. Just to give you the heads up - if you need any scans or biopsies, which most of us do, there will possibly be a further wait of 1-2 weeks to get the results back. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have a breast lump alongside health anxiety, this can't be an easy time for you.

Unfortunately there is no way of knowing what this breast lump is being caused by without going to the breast clinic for further tests. At least you don't have long to wait now until your appointment and hopefully your mind will be put at ease tomorrow.

Breast lumps have many causes and the majority of people seen in a breast clinic won't be found to have cancer so sit tight as best you can for now.

Whilst others on here may share there stories it is impossible to compare situations as often they will have different outcomes.

All the best for your appointment but you know where we are if you need to get back in touch.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi Donna,

Not long to wait now. I hope that all goes well for you tomorrow.

    Kind regards,
