Nano Knife

I am in a situation where I could have nano knife or radiotherapy.

My prostate cancer is in half of  the prostate only at the moment. On checking the pet scan it was found that there is mild signs of the cancer on the other side of the prostate.

I have been offered nano knife but with a warning that I may have to return for the other side in the future.

Would i be better off having the radiotherapy which would attack all the cancer in the prostate.

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

Unfortunately, as nurses, we can't really give you a second medical opinion on your situation, as to suggesting one over the other.

I think it depends on whether you are prepared to have ongoing follow up care to monitor you after the nano knife, as they have concerns that later treatment may still be needed.

Some men may prefer to have the whole radiotherapy treatment in one go, and put it behind them, with possibly less follow up to monitor the prostate gland.

Do discuss the side effects of each with your specialist doctor. They can also advise as to the frequency and type of follow up care would needed for either option.

This hopefully might help you reach a decision that is right for you.

You may find it helpful to join the online community at the uk charity prostate cancer uk where other users can share their experience of similar.

    I hope that this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
