Nervous about skin cancer biopsy

I'm really scared I have to have a  10cm reggidy edge brown and pink mole removed for biopsy.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are having to have a biopsy of your mole and I can understand how unsettling this can be.

We do have some information about different tests that are used including the different types of biopsies which you can see on our website.

Try and keep an open mind. Ask them how long it will take to get the results back as it does vary from hospital to hospital.

Any biopsy that is taken, is then taken to the pathology department and looked at under a microscope so the pathologist can confirm whether it is or isn't cancer and whether it has all been removed. Your case will then be discussed in a large formal meeting which usually meets once a week to discuss new cases

Don't be afraid to ask questions so you fully understand what is involved.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
