Post Therapeutic Mamoplasty

Hey,

im seven months post op and now my scars and inside boob are quite painful, as is the lymph node scar, is this normal?

  • Hi,

I am not a doctor, but have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. The first time I had a lumpectomy, but I had a double mastectomy, second time around. Seven months sounds too early to expect everything to be back to normal. It took my scar tissue 2-3 years to settle and I still have discomfort under my arm, where the lymph nodes were removed. It is now 15 years since I was first diagnosed, so I suspect that this is "the new me" post cancer.

Have you spoken to your breast care nurse about this? It might be worth mentioning how you feel, just in case she can help in any way.

Please keep ion touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Karlywarlyspider and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn that you needed treatment for breast cancer and that you are having pain after the surgery.

There is helpful information on the Breast Cancer Now website. Ongoing pain, is not unusual and can be a side effect lasting some time after surgery months, and possibly longer. There may be several reasons such as nerve damage.

Depending on the cause of the pain some people may benefit from being referred to a physiotherapist for specific exercises. As Jolamine has mentioned it is worth mentioning to your treatment team. If you have a specialist breast care nurse (CNS) do contact them, or perhaps speak with your GP. As they know your situation they will advise you about pain management and can refer you to a physiotherapist if necessary.

I hope you can some support with this soon.

    Take care,

    Jemma

  • Thanks Jolamine, guess it just takes a bit of getting used to, will call the BCN if it continues much longer, you take care xx

  • Thanks Jemma, your rely is really appreciated, will do if it continues. Xx
