Is it IBC?

Hello!

I am a very anxious 29yr old.

A month ago I went to breast clinic after finding a lump on my breast which is a fibroadenoma and a few benign cysts. I was then referred to breast pain clinic for pain I had been experiencing for a month. The pain has now subsided/gone completely so I think is may have been muscle related

They re examined me and were happy but he noticed a small patch of redness on my breast. I brush it off at the time as friction from my bra and the seatbelt in the car. I hadn’t noticed it until then and now it’s all I can focus on!

The redness comes and goes and is very subtle. It can be itchy at times but most of the time not. It’s above my nipple at the 2 o’clock-ish position. It’s been there since Monday so 4 days and hasn’t changed. It’s not dry or flaky. There’s no swelling etc.

I would just like some reassurance that it’s nothing to worry about! I don’t want to have to go back to the GP as it will be the third time in 3 months!

Thank you :)

  • Hello hroann and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are experiencing symptoms that are causing you concern. I believe you are concerned about inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). Unfortunately, we cannot say what the red patch is. IBC is a rare type of breast cancer. It is more likely to be caused by something noncancerous, but only a doctor who can assess you can confirm this.

If it was the GP who noticed the red patch then do go back to them if you are concerned. It would be helpful to tell them what you are worried about, as they know your situation they will be able to give an idea of what they think the red patch is.

I hope you can get some answers and reassurance soon.

    Take care,

    Jemma

  • Hi Jemma

    Thank You for your reply.

It was a breast specialist in clinic that noticed the patch. I hadn’t seen it in the morning or anything. it appears to be getting better currently and using Hydromol helps.

    Thanks
