Moderate severe dyskaryosis and LLETZ

Hi everyone.
I’m Sue. I am 63. I had a LLETZ procedure for high HPV / severe CIN 2 on April 23rd. The consultant said that the procedure was uneventful.
I am going out of my mind with worry about the results. I have a 4 week wait. I have looked on social media groups and there are so many people saying they were diagnosed with cervical cancer after.
I have had no symptoms but that doesn’t make me feel any better.
I am trying my best to put on a brave face but finding life so hard right now.
Just want some reassurance from somewhere.

  • Hi Swills, I am not a nurse, they will respond to you tomorrow.

I just wanted to reassure you that I went through the LLETZ procedure and was found to be cin3, that was over 30 years ago now, and I never had an abnormal smear again.  In the majority of cases it can clear the abnormal cells with the one procedure.  I would concentrate on boosting your immune system with healthy eating and exercise if you can, to help clear the HPV.

I hope that you get clear results soon to ease your worries.

    Best wishes

    Annie

  • Thank you so much. Glad you had that outcome.
Your message gives me hope. Everything I’ve seen in social media groups seem so negative ️

  • Hi Sue and thanks for the post

I appreciate waiting for the results to come through is incredibly difficult, and all sorts of emotions can prey on our minds during this time.

The cervical screening programme is all about preventing cancer by detecting abnormalities that can then be monitored or treated until everything returns to normal.

You mentioned that your consultant said that the LLETZ procedure was uneventful, this is a positive sign. If they had seen anything they were worried about they would have discussed this with you.

CIN2 is classed as precancerous changes and the majority of times, the LLETZ procedure completely removes all the abnormal cells and further treatment is not usually needed.

Social media can be so unhelpful in times like this. People are more likely to post if something scary happened, but you don't often see or hear from people who had their treatment, got normal results ,and carried on with their daily lives.

I know it's easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
