Concern post ultrasound

Any reassurance.
recently went to the drs with a ‘indisgestion’ type feeling that I could shift at home with routine medication. The dr prescribed me omeprazole which cleared up this problem. As part of my checkup I was sent for a blood test- this picked up a concern in haemaglobin levels, Occording to the gp this had been on a previous blood test in 2020 however was never investigated. After multiple other blood tests it has been confirmed negative for what they thought was polycythemia.

i was sent for a routine ultrasound of liver and spleen to check for enlargement. Yesterday in my results appointment with the consultant I was told there is a “mass” located between the gallbladder and liver. I was in utter shock as I wasn’t expecting this and am left feeling bewildered as to how this has come about.

ive got to go for an mri to advise on next steps and to look into this mass in further detail. But I am so incredibly worried.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear that an ultrasound you have had carried out picked up a mass that needs further investigation. This of course must have come as a shock to you and this must be an anxious time.

Unfortunately until you have had the MRI and the doctors know more there is no way knowing what the mass is or what will need to happen next.

Living with uncertainty is never easy and I image the next few weeks will be unsettling for you. Try as best you can to take things one step at a time and try not to let your mind run away with itself until you have all the information about what this is.

Keep yourself busy and your thoughts on other things if you can and avoid googling as it may lead you down the wrong path as to what is going on.

Remember not all masses will be cancer but it is important that things like this are looked into just to be on the safe side.

I hope you know more soon but do get back to us if you need to at this time. The helpline is also open week days 9-5 on 0808 800 4040 if you prefer to call.

    Wishing you all the best

    Naomi
