Itchy spots

I finished my r cheap cancer treatment 5 mths ago,had one follow up,all was ok ,but since then I have developed several rashes on my legs and arms,I contacted the helpline and they advised cream and antihystamine,it has dried some of the spots but they still keep popping up in other places,is this common.?

  • Hello Caz234 and thanks for your post,

Certain chemotherapy drugs and other treatments such as radiotherapy can effect the structure of the skin and make you much more sensitive to ultra violet light once you have finished treatment.

We have some information on our website about some of the skin side effects that you can get. I am not sure how common it is to get it 5 months down the line.

I would speak to your specialist or GP if it continues. They may consider referring you to dermatologist if the spots continue to appear.

It is difficult to be to say too much without being involved in your care but do get back to the hospital /specialist if you are not having a follow up soon. They may suggest more antihistamine cream and a gentle moisturiser such as Aveeno but do seek their advice.

I would avoid using soap or any scented products.

If you would like to ring and chat any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
